Excursion to Novosibirsk
Several times a year we make an excursion to the city-center. The main idea is to help new students to adapt.
But students who study in our center for a long time and who have already been in such an excursion still are happy to participate. This time there was quite a lot of people and that was wonderful.
Not everybody knows until they get to NSU that Academgorodok is located from the center of Novosibirsk far enough to call it a suburb. Plus there are much more picturesque scenes here than in the city. So, with calm traffic it takes 30 minutes to get the center. But with everyday traffic on public transport it can take from an hour to two hours. We always order a personal bus that rides us through Academpark and then through all other areas that lie on our way and separated by dense woods and small fields. So, even if the road takes a lot of time, students always can enjoy the view if they’re tired of talking. During the tour we showed some of the historical and cultural monuments.
The first place we visited in the city-center is the park «The beginning of the city». It is called so in virtue of events happened in the park’s area. Then we went to see the greatest library in Novosibirsk - SPSTL. It has 4 floors on the ground and 5 floors under the ground. Also, we stood on the geographic center of Russia, took pictures with humongous communistic monuments, and visited two old-fashioned buildings from 1903. On the railway station students saw the first train passed the rails on Novosibirsk-Main railway station. It was made in London and had a top speed of 60 km/h.!
Of course, there are much more places to visit. But if you really would like to get acquainted with Novosibirsk, it will definitely take a few weeks. Because Novosibirsk is the 3rd biggest city in our country and it has its own individual history. We have the longest straight street and the longest metro-bridge. Our city grew faster than Chicago. And in Akademgorodok there’s the smartest street in the world – the street of academic Lavrentiev.
